    Majors and Careers Series
    This Web site provides an information page for every major at Indiana University. Each major's information page includes both academic and career-related information. The site also has a keyword search function and a search for majors “by your interests.”

    The University of Minnesota - Duluth has created an online survey that gets students thinking about what skills they can bring to a job. Students are asked to evaluate themselves on communicating; research and planning; human relations skills; organization, management, and leadership; and work survival skills.

    An excellent resource created by the University of North Carolina - Wilmington Career Services Office. This site is probably one of the best career/major resources out there.

    CollegeLink
    CollegeLink allows users to download software that helps to ease the college application process. According to their Web site, "CollegeLink is not a standardized application. Instead, each application is custom printed and formatted to match the regular forms used by colleges. Applicants use CollegeLink on their own, and submit individual applications that provide the unique information each college needs on the form it prefers." The cost is underwritten by the participating schools.

    CollegeView allows you to search their database of over 3,500 two- and four-year schools. Their information is categorized under College Search, Education Index, Coffee Shop, Financial Aid, Careers, AppZap, Bulletin Board, and What's New.

    ExPAN
    The College Board is probably best known as the people behind the SAT, Advanced Placement (AP) Tests, and the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). They've expanded their services and users can now access their ExPAN service to search for colleges, scholarships, and career information. MyRoad.com

    A general question and answer format for students.

    CollegePrep-101
    A series of over 20 lessons on various subjects that students can receive weekly (via a listserv which is set up as a one-way mailing list), or view at their leisure and print off (via the WWW pages). Subjects of the lessons include; the application process, college visits, financial aid, stress management, time management, multiculturalism, extracurricular activities, etc. An excellent resource created and maintained by Lance Millis at Oklahoma State University.

Student Access to Advising/Institutional Information

    Advising Central (North Carolina State University)
    Designed to provide Web- and Internet-based advising to NC State undergraduate students. Includes the Virtual Adviser, FAQ, Advising Tips, information on majors and minors, and more.

    Computerized Analysis System for Educational Success (CASES)
    CASES is an artificial intelligent-based program used at Dallas County Community College District Schools. Information is gathered through a student questionnaire, scanned into the system, combined with academic performance data, yielding a final report. Students and other designated campus members receive a transcript summary, a student profile, suggested "triage" work, and academic planning information. Since many of their students transfer to four-year institutions, information on transferable courses is presented.

    iCAN (Integrated Counseling and Advisement Network)
    Central Piedmont Community College has approached advising as a totally integrated effort utilizing faculty, student services personnel, students, and technology.

    On Course! (University of Arizona)
    On Course! is a computerized degree audit / advising support system designed for students at the University of Arizona. The system produces a list of degree requirements and informs students of progress towards their degree.

    Penn State eLion
    Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) has been the leader in designing artificial intelligence systems in the academic advising arena. eLion (formerly CAAIS) is a Web-based system that includes:

    • expert systems-based academic advising for students;
    • access to the student information system that allows students to view their academic records and update selected information;
    • services for academic advisers;

    Pima Community College's Virtual Advising Center
    Detailed information on Pima Community College's Virtual Advising Center which provides one-on-one, interactive advising through a variety of media.

    University of Delaware's Web access to administrative applications
    The University of Delaware was one of the first campuses to allow access to administrative information via the World Wide Web. The site includes demonstration versions of administrative Web applications.
