Commission Reports: Academic Advising News January 1998 The 1997 national conference in Kansas City produced an exciting forum for members of the Technology in Advising Commission and others interested in advising technology to share ideas and concerns. Most who attended agreed that this conference afforded the greatest opportunity to date for NACADA members to learn about technology advancements, network with colleagues interested in this topic, and become involved the future direction of advising technology through NACADA. The one-day "Conference Within a Conference" technology events generated significant enthusiasm among our members. In fact, several individuals have already begun discussing how similar events may be incorporated into future conferences. In addition, the conference's Commission Discussion Forums allowed interested NACADA members to informally share their technology interests with members of the various commissions. This networking arena provided us with a great opportunity to interact with others interested in technology. Members of the commission's Steering Committee met in Kansas City prior to the conference to assist with the planning and development of commission activities. Our current steering committee roster can be found at the commission web site (see above). We wish to thank former steering committee members Beverly Atkinson, George Holmes, Larry Severy, Remy Sotto, and Gail Zimmerman for their contributions to our commission's development. The Technology in Advising Commission's annual meeting provided an opportunity to organize commission members into project planning teams. Teams were organized to facilitate technology-related discussion and planning in the following areas:
E-mail listservs have been created for each of these teams and members are continuing to pursue these areas of interest. For more information about any of these project teams, please contact the appropriate team leader or visit our commission web site at: http://www.psu.edu/dus/leonard/ncta/index.htm Chuck Haberle Technology in Advising Commission Chair Revised June 17, 2004 |
