Commission Reports: Academic Advising News

February 1999

The Technology in Advising Commission continues to focus on a variety of projects related to advising technology. Our newly enhanced website (http://www.psu.edu/dus/ncta/) now includes several features that resulted from our San Diego conference sessions in October. New web links include a “Critical Issues” page and a commission “volunteer” link, with “advising technology education” and “information systems/vendors” pages being developed. In addition, former commission chair Dan Knauft's award winning “Academic Advising Resources on the Internet” site is now maintained on our site by our commission webmaster, Mike Leonard.

Our focus now turns to this year's regional and national conferences. A variety of technology-related sessions are sure to be offered at our various regional conferences. Commission chair-elect Susan Smith is currently working with technology commission liaisons in the various NACADA regions to network and share ideas that may enhance technology offerings and services at the regional level. We are also in the midst of planning for the national conference in Denver. Our commission steering committee will soon be reviewing all of the technology-related conference proposals for this conference. Each year seems to provide a larger number and variety of technology sessions. In addition, we encourage nominations for our 2nd annual “Electronic Publication Award” competition. Check out our web site for more details, including an on-line nomination submission form. Lastly, as chair of the Denver Technology Committee, I invite others with time and interest to join us in planning for this conference. Please contact me at chaberle@providence.edu if you'd like to get involved.
