Commission Reports: Academic Advising News September 2001 The Technology in Advising Commission is excited about this year's national conference in Ottawa. More than 40 conference session proposals have been reviewed by our commission steering committee, with nearly 30 recommended as concurrent, extended or discussion sessions. 5 of these sessions have been selected for commission sponsorship. Several others were recommended for the increasingly popular poster sessions. The conference will once again provide participants with opportunities to get involved in the commission's activities or to simply network with other colleagues interested in advising technology. The Technology in Advising Commission's annual meeting (October 12th, 1:45pm) will provide interested members with an overview of the commission's activities and projects, as well as a forum to briefly discuss advising technology issues. Please check the Ottawa conference program for more specific information on this session. We will also be available to meet with interested members at the Commissions & Interest Groups Fair as well. Look for our new Commission Display (thanks to North Carolina State University's Andrea Irby and Jackie Gottlieb) at this event. In addition, we have completed our 4th annual Electronic Publication Awards review, with 16 electronic publication nominations reviewed by the commission's selection committee. My thanks to steering committee members Mark Bellcourt (University of Minnesota - Twin Cities), Mike Leonard (Penn State University), and George Steele (Ohio Learning Network) for their participation in this process, as well as prior award winners Lance Millis (Oklahoma State University) and Susan Skees (University of Kentucky). This year's award recipients will be recognized as part of NACADA's annual awards ceremony in Ottawa and all nominations will be featured through the conference's publications exhibit area. Chair-elect, Mike Leonard will formally become commission chair after the Ottawa conference. My thanks to Mike, past chair Dan Knauft (University of Texas-Austin) and the rest of the commission steering committee and others associated with our commission for their tremendous efforts during my four years as chair. Mike should also be commended for his tireless work developing and maintaining our commission website (www.psu.edu/dus/ncta). This resource continues to grow and serves as a great source for the sharing of information about our commission. Thanks also to the dedicated staff of NACADA's Executive Office for helping to make my role as commission chair so much more manageable. To Bobbie Flaherty and the rest of the staff, your professionalism and dedication has been greatly appreciated. Looking forward to seeing many of you in Ottawa.
