Commission Reports: Academic Advising News September 1998 The Technology in Advising Commission is eagerly looking forward to the October national conference in San Diego. The commission's thirteen-member steering committee has already played a significant role in reviewing and recommending more than 30 technology-related program proposals for the conference, and we anticipate several high-quality advising technology sessions, including at least two follow-up presentations from the Kansas City technology "Conference-Within-A-Conference." We are also pleased to sponsor the 1st annual NACADA "Electronic Publication Award." Announced earlier this summer via the ACADV and TECADV-L networks, the Technology in Advising Commission will recognize an outstanding electronic advising publication at its annual commission meeting in San Diego (Monday, October 5th, 3:30pm, location TBA). The commission's selection committee is presently reviewing all nominated publications that were submitted by the August 1st deadline. We have a variety of other items that we expect to address at our San Diego meeting. The commission continues to progress with its three project teams: Regional Activities, Student Information Systems, and San Diego (National) Conference Technology Planning. We plan to facilitate continued discussion and organization on each of these areas. As always, we invite those interested to consider contributing to these technology teams through our annual meeting, team listservs, or by volunteering to actively participate in our various projects. We also look to discuss the implementation of a NACADA-wide technology assessment survey as well as provide a brief forum to identify and focus on critical advising technology issues that NACADA should address in the near future. Finally, we plan to provide an update on various other NACADA technology activities, including NACADA's Distance Learning Task Force and a proposed video project which will have a strong emphasis on technology. To obtain more information about the Technology in Advising Commission or any of the above items, visit our commission web site at: http://www.psu.edu/dus/ncta/ We look forward to seeing many of you in San Diego!
