Commission Projects: Student Information Systems

What is the Student Information Systems (SIS) project?

The commission envisions the SIS project as a Web resource that will provide easy access to links of commercial vendors that market software to educational institutions for the purpose of automating student records, providing degree audits, and improving other advising-related processes. For each vendor, the SIS Web page could include:

  • A link to the vendor's main Web page
  • Links to critical sub-pages
  • A brief description of the vendor's services
  • A list of institutions using that particular software
  • Names/e-mail addresses of individuals at participating institutions who have agreed to serve as information contacts

The SIS project site will not provide NACADA-sponsored reviews of vendors or their products.

Currently, the commission does maintain a list of software vendors with links to their home pages. This list can be found in the Higher Education and Technology section of Academic Advising Resources on the Internet.

How do I get involved?

If you are interested in contributing to this project, you may contact the current commission chair. You may sign up for one or more vendors. Volunteers who submit vendor information will be recognized publicly on the site. In addition, you could assist in soliciting others who might be interested in contributing to this project.
