Guide F: Plan your schedule for next semester
Prepare to meet with an adviser
- Check the first page of one of your degree audits from Guide C to find your first day to register, or check the Registration Timetable.
- If you're currently in DUS at University Park, make an appointment now to meet with your adviser before your first day to register.
If you're in DUS at a Commonwealth Campus, contact the DUS Advising Center at your campus to make an appointment.
- For each of your audits, follow the steps below to identify courses you might schedule for next semester.
Identify courses for majors you are considering
- Print this guide.
- List a major you're interested in.
- Look at the Recommended Academic Plan for this major. (If there's no recommended plan for this major, go on to the next step.) List any specific courses for the first four semesters that you haven't taken (MATH 141, CHEM 112, ECON 004, etc.) plus any categories of courses (humanities, social/behavioral sciences, foreign language, etc.) that you haven't completed.
- Check Entrance-to-Major Requirements to see if any specific courses are required to enter this major and list any of these courses you haven't taken. (If no entrance-to-major courses are required, go on to the next step.)
- Check Flexibility in General Education to see if the major requires any specific General Education courses. If so, list any you haven't completed. Otherwise, you can select any General Education courses for this major.
- Get a degree audit from eLion for the major you listed above (or use your audit from Guide C). In the section of the audit labeled General Education Requirements, find the requirements that you haven't completed. Use Advanced Course Search to find a few General Education courses offered next semester in each category that you'd like to take. List them below.
- If your audit includes a section labeled Bachelor of Arts Requirements, find the requirements you haven't completed. Check Bachelor of Arts Degree Requirements to find courses you'd like to take to meet these requirements and list them below.
If you're considering more than one major, repeat the steps above for each major. (Make copies of this guide and complete one for each major you're considering.)
Meet with an adviser
Bring your completed Navigator guides and your degree audit(s) to your schedule-planning appointment.
Register for your courses
After discussing courses for next semester with your adviser, use eLion to schedule your courses starting on your first day to register.
Then get an updated degree audit for the each major you're considering to see how the courses you scheduled for next semester meet requirements.
