Advising Updates - Number 86 1998-1999 Administrative Enrollment Controls for Baccalaureate Majors (with Entrance Criteria) 1998 Entering First-Year Students (SU98, FA98, SP99) 2000 Spring Pool Smeal College of Business Administration
Entrance Criteria: Applicants to Smeal College majors must complete: ENGL 015 or 030, MATH 110 or 140, CMPSC 203, ECON 002, ECON 004, ACCTG 211, MS&IS 200, M I S 204, B A 243. College of Communications
Entrance Criteria for the Advertising/Public Relations major: Applicants must be 4th semester or higher and have received a grade of C or higher in English 015 or 030 and Economics 002. Entrance Criteria for the Film/Video major: Applicants must be 4th semester
or higher and have received a grade of C or higher in Communications 150
and a grade of B or higher in Communications 242.
Entrance Criteria for Elementary and Kindergarten Education: Completion of C I 295, EDPSY 014, EDTHP 115, PSY 002, and PSY 213 with a grade of C or higher per course and ENGL 015 or 030. No student with less than a 2.50 cumulative grade-point average will be admitted to the major.* Entrance Criteria for Secondary Education: Four prerequisite courses (C I 295, EDPSY 014, EDTHP 115, and PSY 002) required for all options and prerequisites required in each option as listed below. Prerequisite courses common to all options and prerequisite courses unique to individual options are to be completed with a grade of C or better by the end of fall 1999. However, spring 2000 courses will be considered if fall 1999 cumulative grade-point average meets cut-off.*
Entrance Criteria for Special Education: Completion of EDPSY 014, EDTHP 115, PSY 002 and 213, and HD FS 129 with a grade of C or higher per course. No student with less than a 2.50 cumulative grade-point average will be admitted to the major. In addition, candidates must present scores from the NTE Communication
Skills Test and from the Penn State Mathematics Test and document 80 hours
of volunteer or paid work in two different settings with populations age-appropriate
to this major, including at least 40 hours involving individuals from an
underrepresented group or who are from rural or urban areas, but different
from the candidate's own background, and 40 hours involving individuals
with special needs.
Entrance Criteria: Applicants to Engineering majors must have completed MATH 140, MATH 141, CHEM 012, and PHYS 201/211 with a grade of C or better. (Note: for Computer Science majors, CSE 120 would replace CHEM 012.)
