FTCAP 101: First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising

Course Description:
Penn State is a large University with many opportunities, majors, requirements, policies, and procedures. Without some guidance, enrolling here can be a bit overwhelming. FTCAP, the First-Year Testing, Counseling and Advising Program, is that guidance. It is not only your orientation to your new academic life at Penn State, but also your first day of class, "FTCAP 101," so to speak, which will take place at your campus of admission. This "class" is typically a full day of academic advising and is broken into two parts. The two homework assignments below were designed to get you ready for your advising day (FTCAP), and you are expected to complete both of them at home and bring the appropriate prints-outs with you on your assigned FTCAP day.

Homework Assignments (due on your FTCAP advising day, click button at bottom to begin):

Assignment #1:
Read:
What are the Requirements of a Penn State Degree?
Complete:
a. "Major Requirements" Worksheet and submit it electronically
b. Bring a copy of the Bulletin entry for a major that interests you.

Assignment #2:
Read:
What Courses Should I Schedule?
Complete:
"General Education" Worksheet. Bring it with you to campus.

These assignments will NOT be graded; however, it is important that you do them, because you may use what you learn during your FTCAP advising day (i.e. your FTCAP 101 class) to help you better understand Penn State.
