Welcome Week 2016

More than 100 programs help students become part of Penn State communities across Pennsylvania.

Welcome, students! To find information about all campuses, see the Penn State Campuses page. On the University Park campus, Welcome Week includes dinners, involvement fairs, social events, and more. Events are free to students, but some require a student id+ Card for entry. 

Don't miss these events at University Park campus

— Arrival Day Activities (required for new, first-year students), Friday-Sunday, Aug. 19-21. Times and locations vary. Find out moreActivities include dinner, the President’s New Student Convocation, President’s Reception, and LateNight. 

President's New Student Convocation (required for first-year students), Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:45 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center. The convocation marks the beginning of the new academic year and is the official welcome to the University academic community. 

— College Dean's Meetings (required for all new students, including first-year, change-of-campus, and transfer students), Sunday, Aug. 21. Times and locations vary by college. Find out more.

 

Clubs and organizations are a way to discover more about what your interests are and what your future can be.

— Be a Part from the Start, Sunday, Aug. 21, at 8 p.m. in Rec Hall. Come learn all about Penn State pride, hosted by the Lion Ambassadors, the Blue Band, members of Penn State athletic squads, the cheerleaders, the dance team, and the Nittany Lion. 

— Involvement Fair, Monday, Aug. 22, and Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside the HUB. With more than 900 student organizations and the largest Greek community and club sports program in the country, there is something for everyone. (Back-up dates in case of bad weather: Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Monday, Aug. 29)

 

A variety of academic and multicultural services as well as clubs and organizations promote the importance of diversity and inclusion.

Nittany Block Party, Friday, Aug. 26, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Pollock Road outside the HUB-Robeson Center. Come to the block party for live entertainment, free food, and activities. 

Fresh START Day of Service, Saturday, Aug. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meet in Alumni Hall at the HUB-Robeson Center. End your Welcome Week activities by making a difference in your new community. Fresh START is an opportunity to meet new people and get involved. The day includes breakfast, lunch, and a free T-shirt. Sign up at www.volunteer.psu.edu.
