A-3: DEGREE-SEEKING PROVISIONAL STUDENT

 

Senate Policy:  10-00, Degree-Seeking Provisional Students

 

Procedure:

  1. A degree-seeking provisional student must apply for admission to the University either on the web or from an online print form and submit the appropriate application fee for undergraduate admission consideration.
  1. Evidence that the applicant holds a high school diploma or its equivalent must be provided.
  1. Based on credentials submitted, the applicant must show evidence for potential academic success and meet the criteria for degree-seeking provisional admission for the requested campus.

Procedure:

At the end of each semester the Division of Undergraduate Studies will monitor the academic progress of all degree-seeking provisional students according to the following schedule.

  1. 18 credits completed - If a student has completed 18 credits with a cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or higher, the student will be considered to be making satisfactory academic progress.
  1. If after completion of 18 credits the student's cumulative grade-point average falls below 2.00, the student will be given a warning. The student will be notified of the warning by the Division of Undergraduate Studies.
  1. At the end of each semester, the Division of Undergraduate Studies will inform each degree-seeking provisional student who has reached or exceeded 18 credits of the following:
  1. The requirement for continued enrollment as a degree-seeking provisional student.
  2. The procedure for change of enrollment (Ref: Senate Policy 12-00).
  3. The prohibition of enrolling as a degree-seeking provisional student after attempting and completing 36 or more credits.
  1. 27 credits completed - If a student has completed 27 credits or more with a cumulative grade-point average of less than 2.00, the student will be dropped from degree-seeking provisional status. The student will be notified of the drop action by a letter from the Registrar.
  1. 36 credits completed - No student will be permitted to continue to enroll as a degree-seeking provisional student upon the completion of 36 credits. Students completing 36 credits will be notified that they will not be permitted to continue enrollment in a degree-seeking provisional status by the initiation of a "hold" by the Registrar. The "hold" will prevent further registration as a degree-seeking provisional student. The student may seek admission as a degree student or enrollment as a nondegree student.
