M-1: PENN STATE ERIE, THE BEHREND COLLEGE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

 

Policy:

Penn State-Behrend has been authorized by the Executive Vice President and Provost of the University and the Board of Trustees to offer majors and options leading to an associate degree or to a baccalaureate degree. These academic programs may either be existing programs offered through the colleges of the University or new programs.

 

Procedure:

1. Academic majors and options existing at University Park may be authorized for offering at Penn State-Behrend by the Provost of the University upon recommendation by the Provost and Dean of Penn State-Behrend. Procedures for new majors and options and changes in existing majors and options are found in Section P-1.

2. Penn State-Behrend may offer appropriate existing courses provided the faculty who teach the courses are approved by the appropriate department head. Approvals for faculty teaching courses authorized only for Penn State-Behrend will be the responsibility of appropriate Penn State-Behrend academic administrators. Procedures for new courses not presently approved for offering in the University and experimental courses are found in Section P-1.

3. The Provost and Dean of Penn State-Behrend serves as the academic dean for all students at Penn State-Behrend in terms of fulfilling the rules of the University Senate and in handling other administrative tasks. For those students who intend to remain at Penn State-Behrend for two years or less and transfer to University Park, the Provost and Dean shall follow the instructions established by the appropriate college at University Park.

4. A student enrolled at Penn State-Behrend past the first four semesters shall be a Penn State-Behrend student seeking a major offered by Penn State-Behrend. No student should be enrolled at Penn State-Behrend beyond the fourth semester unless the student is a bona fide Penn State-Behrend major. A student enrolled in a Penn State-Behrend major who wishes to change to a similar major at University Park should process a Change of Major form signed by both the Penn State-Behrend Provost/Dean and the University Park college dean.

5. Students completing academic majors at Penn State-Behrend shall receive a diploma from The Pennsylvania State University-The Behrend College and it shall be signed by the Provost and Dean of Penn State-Behrend who certifies that the requirements for that degree have been met.
