Administrative Council on Undergraduate Education (ACUE)
Membership and Structure
ACUE is the principal administrative advisory agency to the President, Executive Vice President and Provost, Vice President and Dean for Undergraduate Education, and the academic deans of the colleges, Outreach, and the University Libraries on administrative matters that impact undergraduate education across the University. This includes consultation pertaining to University Faculty Senate legislation. ACUE is responsible for the design of academic and administrative policies and procedures that support the University's undergraduate education goals and objectives. Within the framework of Senate and University policies, ACUE formulates the formal implementation that guides the offering, delivery, and assessment of academic programs and learning opportunities, the admission and enrollment of undergraduate students, and other related matters.
ACUE serves at the request of the Vice President and Dean for Undergraduate Education. Voting membership includes the associate or assistant dean for undergraduate education from each of the academic colleges, the Division of Undergraduate Studies, the Registrar, the University Libraries, and the World Campus. In order to preserve each dean's ability to represent their college, the individual serving as chair retains their right to cast votes. The Associate Vice President and Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education will vote only to break a tie. Affiliate (non-voting) membership is extended to the chair-elect of the University Faculty Senate, and a representative from the University Park Undergraduate Association and from the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments.
ACUE provides oversight to and formally acts on proposals and recommendations from ACUE committees. Standing ACUE committees are organized as follows:
- Academic Affairs Committee: issue identification and backgrounding; Senate and Provostial policy implementation, new policy development concerning academic programs, courses, grading, curricular integrity, grade mediation, internships and coops, academic integrity; and other undergraduate academic issues.
- Admission, Aid, and Enrollment Committee: admissions, enrollment, credits, course scheduling, records, calendar
- ACUE Assessment Coordination Committee: monitors and promotes institutional assessment and facilitates sharing of information on and understanding of best practices
- Curricular Program Prospectus Committee: provides brief recommendations on current curricular program prospectus, taking into consideration ACUE discussion and strategic university issues such as physical, fiscal, and faculty resources.
- Global Programs Committee: study abroad programs, international student programs
- University Committee on Instructional Facilities: classrooms, libraries, learning centers, computing support, academic technologies
- University Council on Advising: placement, basic skills, testing, retention, orientation
An executive group consisting of the Vice President and Dean for Undergraduate Education, the ACUE Chair, and the Associate Vice President and Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Educationadministers the agenda of ACUE and coordinates the distribution of issues and projects among the committees.
Each ACUE committee is composed of members from ACUE with a college associate dean serving as chair. Other members from offices and agencies across the University may be invited as appropriate to contribute to deliberations and policy development. Membership on the committees is expected to rotate. Each committee considers issues, projects, processes, policies, and procedures related to their respective topic areas. Each provides ACUEwith informational reports, position statements, and action items relating to academic administrative policies and procedures.
