Thursday, June 21, 2012 – Deadline for First-Year Testing, Consulting, and Advising Program (FTCAP) - Placement Testing for New First-Year Students
If you have not already completed your FTCAP placement testing (noted on your postcard) you must complete the online placement tests in mathematics and chemistry by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012. Allow 3 hours to complete the Educational Planning Survey and placement tests. Go to http://dus.psu.edu/ftcap/survey. This deadline is essential for your test results to be available during the FTCAP meeting and course scheduling session on Monday, June 25.

This session will help you plan how to get the most from
your Penn State experience. It provides an overview of the
shared Penn State community values, the resources available
to help you get connected, as well as the academic structure
and opportunities at Penn State. Preparatory assignments
should be completed at
http://dus.psu.edu/ftcap/advising/up/homework.html PRIOR
to this meeting, as this content is built upon in this session and
in your college advising meeting. Online placement tests must
be completed by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, as placement
test results are necessary for course scheduling and
academic advising. You will receive a copy of your results

This session is for parents and family members accompanying their students. Attendance is encouraged
but not mandatory.
College Meetings for All New Students: First-Year, Change-of-Campus, and Advanced-Standing Transfer Students
12:45-1:15 p.m. College of Engineering Meeting, 262 Willard Building
Assistant Dean Jean Landa Pytel will meet with all
new students, including first-year, change-of-campus,
and transfer students, to discuss advising, programs,
and opportunities in the College of Engineering.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Agricultural Sciences Meeting, 133 Food Sciences Building
Associate Dean Tracy Hoover and representatives
from the Office for Undergraduate Education will welcome
all students new to the University Park campus. Student
ambassadors from the college will be on hand to present
the student perspective. Student responsibilities, educational
and social activities, advising, opportunities upon
graduation, and college-sponsored extracurricular activities
will be discussed. Course scheduling for students not
previously registered for summer and fall 2012 will be held
immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Arts and Architecture Meeting, 121 Borland Building
All new students will be welcomed by Associate Dean
Gary Kesler and members of his staff. Students will be
introduced to college programs and opportunities, the
services of the Undergraduate Studies Office, and other
University resources. Assistance with course scheduling
and registration adjustment will be discussed at this
meeting. Students attending the morning FTCAP meeting
will also receive course scheduling and registration help
immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. Smeal College of Business Meeting, 101 Thomas Building
Associate Dean Gus Colangelo and representatives from
the Smeal Undergraduate Education programs will welcome
new students to the college and describe activities and
opportunities available. Assistance with course
scheduling and registration adjustments may be discussed
following the meeting. First-year students who have not
attended the Smeal FTCAP presentation and scheduled for
summer 2012 and fall 2012 will report to 110 Business Bldg.
immediately following the meeting for FTCAP scheduling
and registration.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Communications Meeting, 10 Sparks Building
The Academic Services staff will welcome new students. Discussion will include educational objectives
and academic requirements. Students will preview
majors, activities, and opportunities available in
Communications. Assistance with course scheduling
and registration adjustment will be discussed at this
meeting. Students attending the morning FTCAP
meeting will also receive course scheduling and registration
help immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Earth and Mineral Sciences Meeting, EMS Student Center, 14 Deike Building
Students new to the University Park campus should attend
this orientation meeting in the EMS Student Center,
ground floor, Deike Bldg. The orientation is an
opportunity to meet with staff from the Student Center
and the Office of the Associate Dean for Education, who
will provide important information on college programs
and other items of interest. Assistance with course
scheduling and registration adjustment will be
discussed at this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Education Meeting, 101 Chambers Building
Faculty and staff will welcome students and introduce
them to important information on advising resources,
programs, activities, and opportunities available in the
College of Education. Assistance with course scheduling
and registration adjustment will be discussed at this meeting.
Students attending the morning FTCAP meeting will also
receive course scheduling and registration help immediately
following this meeting.
1:30-4:00 p.m. College of Engineering FTCAP Presentation, 220 Hammond Building
Followed by scheduling and registration adjustment
for students who attend the morning FTCAP meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Health and Human Development Meeting, 110 Henderson Building
Associate Dean Tony D'Augelli and his staff
will greet all new students, including first-year,
change-of-campus, and transfer students to introduce
the programs, activities, and opportunities available in
the College of Health and Human Development. The
college's advising program will be discussed. Course
scheduling for students not previously scheduled for
summer 2012 will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m., 110
Henderson Bldg. Students attending the morning FTCAP
meeting will also receive course scheduling and
registration help from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in 110 Henderson Bldg.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of Information Sciences and Technology Meeting, 110 IST Building
This is for all students in the College of Information
Sciences and Technology who are new to the University
Park campus. Students will be introduced to the pro-
grams, activities, and opportunities available in the
college. Students attending the morning FTCAP meeting
will also receive course scheduling and registration help
immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. College of the Liberal Arts Meeting, 121 Sparks Building
Students new to the University Park campus will be
welcomed by Associate Dean Christopher Long and
advising staff in the Liberal Arts Undergraduate
Studies office. Students will be introduced to advising
in the College, educational programs, extracurricular
opportunities and other University resources. Students
attending the morning FTCAP meeting will also
receive course scheduling and registration help
immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. Eberly College of Science Meeting, 100 Life Sciences Building
Dean Mary Beth Williams will meet with all new
students, including first-year, change-of-campus,
and transfer students, to welcome them and
introduce them to the programs, activities, and
opportunities available in the College. Staff from
The Eberly College of Science Advising Center,
including Director Dr. Carolyn Jensen, will also
be presenting information about advising and
academic policies. Course scheduling for those
students not previously registered for summer and
fall 2012 will be held at designated locations
immediately following this meeting.
1:30-2:30 p.m. Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) Meeting, 100 Thomas Building
This is a meeting for all new DUS and
provisional students admitted for summer 2012.
You will be introduced to the advising
resources you will need to make informed academic
decisions at Penn State.
1:30-2:30 p.m. School of Nursing Meeting, 210 Health & Human Development East Building
Academic advisers will greet all new students,
including first-year, change-of-campus, and transfer
students, to discuss advising issues, programs, and
opportunities within the School of Nursing. Students
attending the morning FTCAP meeting should

2:30-3:30 p.m. College of Arts and Architecture Academic Advising, 104 Borland Building
This meeting is open only to first-year, change-of-
campus, and advanced-standing transfer students
who have not yet scheduled classes for summer

Have fun, meet new people and make a difference
in your community. Summer Day of Service is a
great opportunity to meet other new Penn State students
and to get involved in your new community. As a
volunteer, you will receive a tee-shirt, food, and
transportation to your service site. A current Penn State
student will lead your service project and work to connect
you to future service opportunities; including Fresh
START Day of Service for ALL new students on
Saturday, September 8, 2012.
