As Arrival Day Gets Closer

Getting Ready for Move-In

When you start to plan your trip to campus, check the Welcome Week website at or Welcome Schedule (Your Guide to Welcome Week Activities) to find out when and where to check into your residence hall room. We want to make sure you know what to expect and what to bring. If your family members want to stay overnight during Welcome Week, they will need to make lodging arrangements well in advance. We suggest calling the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau at 800-358-5466 or 814-231-1400 or visiting their website at for a list of hotels and motels in the area.

You'll receive a packet in the mail that will include information about Welcome Week, a campus map and directions, and you will be directed to to view your room assignment and the name, phone number, and e-mail of your roommate. Complete arrival information can be found at

If you plan to bring a computer to campus, you must register your Ethernet address and configure your computer before you arrive to avoid connection delays when you get here. Check the ResCom web site ( before coming to campus for more information on getting connected.

Once you arrive on campus, the Rescom staff can help you get connected and will be available for assistance with computer hardware and software issues. The Ethernet connection in your room will give you a direct link to the Penn State Network, allowing for quick and easy access to the web and your Penn State e-mail account. (You will need to check your Penn State e-mail account regularly, as this is where official University electronic correspondence will be sent.) Even if you are not bringing a computer, you can take advantage of technology at any of the 24-hour Information Technology Services (ITS) labs located in each residence area. For step-by-step configuration instructions and computer specifications as well as ResCom locations, visit the ResCom website at More computer-related information is also available at
