Whether you hike, jog, swim, or play team sports to stay in shape, recreation opportunities are plentiful at the University Park campus. Facilities are provided for many popular activities, including basketball, volleyball, tennis, and rollerblading.
Penn State has one of the largest recreational sports programs in the country. Activities are divided into Intramural Sports (865-5401), Club Sports (865-9202), and Fitness (865-3488 or 863-1858) activities for both students and faculty/staff. Intramurals are housed at the IM Building. Intramurals offers competition in many of the popular team and individual sports such as basketball, football, and tennis. You can choose to compete in men's, women's, or coed tournaments. Fitness is located in White Building. The rapidly growing Fitness program offers a large variety of aerobic classes for any member of the campus community. The MBNA Fitness Center in White Building provides 10,000 square feet of free weights, stack weight machines and cardiovascular equipment. In addition, the Club Sports office in the White Building coordinates more than fifty student-run clubs. Some are very competitive, like the ice hockey and rugby clubs, but most are less formal, like archery and the very popular Penn State Outing Club.
Penn State's Intercollegiate Athletics program is nationally known and respected for the dimensions of its offerings and success of its teams. The Penn State athletics hotline (863-1000) has current information on events and ticket availability.
