An Introduction to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)
will help you to better understand CQI and its use within the
Penn State community. Although the time will vary from individual
to individual, we estimate it will take approximately 2
hours to complete this course. You may stop and start anywhere
in the program.
For your convenience, this workshop is organized into three
main areas:
- What?
- So What?
- Now What?
After you experience What, you will
be able to:
- Define in your own words, Continuous Quality Improvement,
- Understand the term "process improvement,"
- Describe the purpose of the IMPROVE model, and
- List the 7 parts of Penn State's IMPROVE model.
After you experience So What,
you will be able to:
- Describe four processes that others have improved,
- Identify who was involved in improving each of these processes,
- Identify each step of the IMPROVE model, and
- Explain why continuous improvement is important and four ways
that it has been approached.
In Now What,
you will be asked to show how much you understand about Continuous
Quality Improvement. You will be asked to:
- Identify your own work process.
- Work with others to better understand the process.
- Answer a series of IMPROVE questions about your process, and
- Submit your responses to Penn State's IMPROVE questions.
After you submit responses for all the IMPROVE components, the
Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment
will review your answers and mail you a Penn
State IMPROVE certificate.
