2.1 Focus on Faculty Recruitment and Retention for Excellence (Year 1: 2009-2010)

Deans and Chancellors were able to recruit fewer faculty this year. Where there have been vacancies and opportunities to hire new faculty, investment has been made in special areas of opportunity, such as hiring faculty in interdisciplinary clusters around a common theme. At the Commonwealth Campuses, research opportunities were expanded through colloquia and grantsmanship training. Several campuses collaborated in hiring faculty for a joint degree program. Training sessions were offered on the faculty search process, orientation, and the promotion and tenure processes.
