Team # 481 -- University Learning Centers on the Web
Undergraduate Education

February 2002

Objective

As a peer tutoring operation, the University Learning Centers have been helping students with out-of-class learning for over 30 years. In order to make our services more available and accessible to students, faculty and staff, the ULC has developed several online resources, including job applications, tutor request forms, a study skills web site with interactive modules, supplemental instruction on the web, e-tutoring in writing, and ULC hours and locations on the Web.

Challenge: To make their peer tutoring services more available and accessible to students, faculty, and staff.

Methodology: The main objective of the Learning Centers' improvement project was to increase accessibility to their services by making more of their services available on the Web

Results Achieved to Date

  • The main objective of the Learning Centers' improvement project was to increase accessibility to their services by making more of their services available on the Web. Although they did not have the actual numbers available, the group has kept track of the number of students working for them and the number of students requesting tutoring. They report that both measures indicate that there has been an increase in the use of their services. There were no cost savings involved with their improvement project. Further improvements are planned but no specifics were mentioned.
  • Impact: Although no concrete metrics were available at this time, the group has kept track of the number of students working for them and the number of students requesting tutoring. They report that both measures indicate that there has been an increase in the use of their services.
