Team # 958 -- EMS Volunteer Program
Student Affairs
October 2010
Objective
To increase the number of volunteers who are capable of successfully completing the EMS volunteer program. The team identified that a higher number of EMT volunteers have either been exiting or unsatisfactorily progressing through the EMT volunteer program. Successful completion of the volunteer program is the pathway to function as a skilled EMS ambulance crew member. Problem areas were identified in a survey conducted with recent volunteer program participants.

Results Achieved to Date
- ExpectedResults:
The program volunteer hiring process has been placed on ANGEL to allow application and entry into the program within the first 3 weeks of the semester.
Program content has been adjusted to:
1) include an information session during the first week to outline the significant work and time commitment necessary
for success
2) improve learning conditions with a more structured mentor program matching each volunteer with a mentor at the
beginning of training
3) redistribute training initiative, skills mastery, and evaluations over a 2 semester period
4) final evaluation for promotion to crew or release from the program will be at the end of the 2nd semester. The new
program will begin with the Spring 2011 class. Remeasurement will be by survey of program participants with the
Volunteer Supervisor at the middle and end of each semester.
