Feature Article: Perspectives on Higher Education Across the United States

The annual conference of the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education (NCCI) provides an opportunity to share information across universities about initiatives to advance academic and administrative excellence. Over 100 individuals from 64 institutions and organizations in the United States, Canada, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Abu Dhabi met in July 2012. Universities at the conference provided information on how they are addressing some of the issues.

Quality Advocates: Penn State’s Budget Planning Task Force

Presenters: David Gray, Senior Vice President for Finance and Business; and Robert Pangborn, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost

Penn State’s Budget Planning Task Force was appointed by President Erickson in April 2012, and charged with developing systemic recommendations on how the University can deal with “budgetary challenges that are without parallel in its modern history". Task Force co-chairs Robert Pangborn and David Gray will discuss the work of the group.

Workshop: Q&A with OPIA – The IMPROVE Model

NEW! Penn State’s Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment introduces a new format for sharing information.

Q&A with OPIA is presented through Adobe Connect. This online session provides a quick introduction to and overview of Penn State’s IMPROVE model. There will be opportunity for questions during the session, and for one-on-one follow-up.

Do You Know? November is World Quality Month

Quality initiatives are celebrated by the third annual World Quality Month. This Web site hosted by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) provides access to ‘Quality Minute’ videos, quality organizations around the globe, and a calendar of events.

The Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment supports the University’s efforts to plan, assess, and improve programs and services. The Office is available, at no charge, to consult with units and use organizational change tools to help units assess their needs, develop strategic plans, improve key processes, and develop collaborative team environments.
