NOW WHAT ?

The Penn State IMPROVE model is a road map for improvement that uses CQI principles and tools. By using the IMPROVE model you will: better understand that work is a process, use data in decision-making, and determine appropriate measures of performance.

Penn State's IMPROVE model is simply a series of questions. The questions are organized into seven different parts. Together, the seven parts make up the IMPROVE model.

The purpose of the IMPROVE model is to :

  • Help you identify opportunities to improve your work.
  • View the improvement process through a series of questions.
  • Guide you through a decision making process.
  • Investigate improvement process questions with other people.
  • Help plan for improvement and successful change to take place.
  • Provide a structure to continue evaluating solutions throughout your IMPROVE efforts, and
  • Ultimately improve the quality of your work within the Penn State community.

The seven parts of Penn State's IMPROVE model are:

  • Identify and select process for improvement,
  • Map the process,
  • Prepare an analysis of the process development,
  • Research and develop solutions,
  • Organize and implement improvements,
  • Verify and document results, and
  • Evaluate and plan for continuous improvement.

And the IMPROVE model is visually represented below:

You may also review the questions by clicking on the words Identify, Map, Prepare, Research, Organize, Verify or Evaluate in the menu on the top of the page.

Note: In So What you will experience four different CQI initiatives at Penn State. For your convenience, the four initiatives, stories, and teams are organized and presented using Penn State's IMPROVE model.
