7.3 Reduce the Rate of Increase of Health Care Costs (Year 1: 2009-2010)
Penn State College of Medicine’s role in containing health care costs for Penn State University employees, faculty, and students is to expand the availability of cost effective health care providers and facilities to serve the entire University. The current focus of this effort is on Centre County, with the development of a regional medical campus in State College. The strategy also includes expansion of Penn State Hershey Medical Center practice locations that are near other Penn State campuses.
Penn State has changed how it provides for medical coverage for full-time employees eligible to retire. For those employees hired on or after January 1, 2010, the University will contribute funds to a retirement healthcare savings plan that will be accessible to the employee once they have retired.
