Penn State's Strategic Planning Process
The University Strategic Planning Council was formed in November 2007. It was charged with thinking beyond a five-year planning cycle to consider where the University should be in 10 to 20 years.
In spring 2008, to supplement the work of the University Strategic Planning Council, seven task forces were charged with examining academic excellence, campus missions, student success, information resources, technology, and services, globalization, the land grant mission, and resource management and revenue enhancement. These task forces delivered their reports and shared their recommendations (http://www.psu.edu/president/pia/strategic_planning/uspc/TFrecommendations.pdf) with the University Strategic Planning Council in October 2008.
The University Strategic Planning Council also took into account the approximately 45 unit strategic plans completed June 30, 2008, and the themes identified there (http://www.psu.edu/president/pia/plans/).
The Board of Trustees approved the strategic plan at their May 15, 2009 meeting, and implementation will begin in July 2009.
