NASA Space Grant Fellowships
Fellowships are awarded to outstanding students in fields of study that
promote the understanding, assessment and utilization of Space or the
NASA Strategic Enterprises: Aero-Space Technology, Earth Science,
HEDS, Space Science, Biological and Physical Research. Fields of study in most departments are eligible.
Fellowships are given at The Pennsylvania State University, Carnegie Mellon University,
University of Pittsburgh, and Temple University.

The main goals of NASA's education program are to "inspire and motivate students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics" and to "engage the public in shaping and sharing the experience of exploration and discovery".

Minority University Research and Education Programs(MUREP)

The Minority University Research and Education Programs are administered through NASA's Office of Education to increase responsiveness to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Other Minority Universities including Hispanic Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges and Universities.

The Zonta International Foundation offers an annual
Amelia Earhart Fellowship for women. This Fellowship was established in 1938 in honor of Amelia Earhart, famed
pilot and Zontian.
Zonta invites applications from qualified women for grants of $6000 each
for graduate study in aerospace-related sciences and engineering. Women of
any nationality are eligible. It is anticipated that 35 grants will be made
for the coming year.

Astronaut Scholarship Foundation scholarship (annual)
The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation scholarships are awarded to juniors, seniors, or graduate students in math,
physical sciences and engineering each year. The Penn State 2001-2002 recipient was Nicholas Bond,
a senior in the Schreyer Honors College majoring in astronomy and astrophysics. The Penn State 2002-2003 recipient is Eric Rotthoff,
who is majoring in Computer Science and Astronomy and Astrophysics. The Students at Penn State are nominated annually by
the Undergraduate Fellowships Office located in 11A Grange Building. For more information about

Two-hundred-fifty scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding sophomores and juniors
in math, the natural sciences and engineering. Awards of up to $7500 cover the cost of tuition, fees,
books and room and board. Penn State has had 22 winners in the last six years. Students at University Park must apply through the Undergraduate
Fellowships Office located in 11A Grange Building. The 2005 deadline is February 1st. For more information about the scholarship, please visit

The annual NSF Fellowships provide three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based masters or
doctoral degrees in science, mathematics, and engineering supported by the NSF and are
intended for students in the early stages of their graduate study. Penn State students win up to fifteen NSF fellowships each year.
Although you can apply directly to NSF, Penn State students in the College of Science should contact
Associate Dean Norm Freed prior to applying. All students are encouraged to use the
resources and services offered through the Undergraduate Fellowships Office when gathering
application materials.
The Undergraduate Fellowships Office (UFO) encourages
qualified Penn State students to apply for and get
scholarships through promotion, recruitment, mentoring, and
establishing a nurturing environment. Their office is located in the back of Grange Building in 11A. You are
encouraged to stop by their office and peruse through the numerous scholarships, fellowships and
research opportunities they have on file.
Universities Space Research Association Undergraduate Scholarship (annual)

The purpose of the USRA Scholarship Program is to provide college scholarships
to students who have shown a career interest in the physical sciences or
engineering with an emphasis on space research or space science education. Scholarships up to $500 are awarded annually. The deadline is
May 1 every year.
