Application Process for the MURE Program
The MURE application process is described below. Students may reapply for the MURE program during each year of their undergraduate career.
The application deadline is October 15, 2008.
There is a new online application for the MURE Program.
Instructions are posted.
Online MURE Application
Step 1: CHOOSE Your Lab(s)
- Read through the descriptions of the research opportunities.
You may apply to work in up to 3 labs.
- Don't be alarmed if you don't understand all of the lab descriptions
because the research mentor will explain more to you during the interview.
- You will be expected to be in the lab for at least 5 hours per week for two semesters.
- Before you choose your labs(s), feel free to contact past MURE students who have worked in the lab. Their names
are listed, with e-mail addresses, at the bottom of each professor's lab description.
Step 2: COMPLETE the Application(s)
- Review the online application instructions.
- Select Complete/Edit Application from the online application.
- Applications are due on October 15, 2008.
Step 3: GO to the Interview(s)
- After you have submitted your application(s), they will be reviewed by the
respective researchers.
- Monitor your email regularly as this is the most convenient mode of
communication. Researchers will contact you between Oct. 15-Nov. 10 if they would like to set up an interview.
- During the interview, you will have the opportunity to tour the lab and meet the graduate students,
post-docs, and others who work in the lab to determine if it is a good placement for
you.
Step 4: AFTER the interview
- Return to your online application and select "Faculty Preferences" from left sidebar menu.
- Preferences must be submited no later than November 10th.
Step 5: GET Your Lab Placement
- You will be notified of your lab placement by the MURE Coordinator via e-mail by Tuesday December
5.
Placements are arranged according to BOTH your and the researchers' preferences.
- Placements begin in January 2008 with the start of Spring semester. You should schedule a time to meet with your
mentor at that time.
