Aid Application Completion Dates

First-Year Undergraduate, Graduate, and Transfer Students:
  • We recommend that you submit the FAFSA on the Web by February 15 for maximum consideration of all student financial aid programs (including loans, grants, work-study and scholarships) at Penn State.
  • The 2009-10 FAFSA on the Web is available after January 1, 2009.
  • Our office begins sending Student Financial Aid Notifications to first-year students beginning in mid-March and on a regular basis thereafter, we receive students' FAFSA information.

Returning Current Undergraduate and Graduate Students:

  • Submit the FAFSA on the Web by April 15 for maximum consideration of all student financial aid programs (including loans, grants, work-study and scholarships) at Penn State .
  • If you are a current student and completed a FAFSA in a previous year, you can save time applying for 2009-10 student aid by answering "yes" to the question "Would you like to pre-fill your 2009-10 FAFSA?".
  • As a current student, you will receive an e-mail message at your Penn State e-mail address beginning in mid-to late June or after your FAFSA information is received (whichever is later) notifying you that your student financial aid is accessible via the Student Aid Summary on eLion.

State Grant Deadlines:

  • Pennsylvania Residents--If you complete the FAFSA on the Web by the above recommended dates, you will also meet the 2009-10 Pennsylvania State Grant deadline of May 1, 2009.
  • Non-Pennsylvania Residents--Please access our list of state grants for out-of-state students for other state grant deadlines or contact your state grant agency directly.
