Office of Student Aid : Applying for Student Aid 2007-08 : Student Aid Information for Study Abroad Students
Student Aid Information for Study Abroad Students
You may still be eligible for student aid if you participate in a study abroad program offered through the International Programs office at Penn State because:
- You will remain registered as a Penn State student while you are studying at a foreign institution.
- You will pay Penn State tuition at your usual tuition rate while you are abroad. (Remember: Tuition refers to the cost of your courses only--it does not refer to all of the costs you will incur while abroad!)
Please note that students who participate in study abroad programs not offered through International Programs must take a leave of absence from Penn State for the semester they will be abroad, and thus are not eligible to receive aid from Penn State for the duration of their study abroad program. Penn State does not participate in student aid-related consortium agreements due to potential liability issues.
Refunds for Penn State students who study abroad are not available before the beginning of the semester. Make sure you have requested that your refund be electronically deposited into your bank account by selecting Refund Information from the Students menu on eLion.
If you are interested in study abroad:
- Look at the International Programs Web site to learn more about Penn State-sponsored education abroad programs.
- Meet with an Education Abroad Adviser prior to submitting your application if you need more information about any aspect of a particular program that interests you.
- You can call the reception desk in International Programs (814-865-7681) to schedule an appointment.
- Make sure you are aware of the relevant application deadlines for the semester in which you wish to study abroad.
- Contact the Office of Student Aid concerning your eligibility for student financial aid.
