Next Steps to Summer Aid for Current Students
It is important to complete these steps in order and by the method described to ensure error-free processing of summer 2008 student financial aid.
If you received the maximum award from a particular student aid program during the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters, you may not be eligible for additional funds from that aid program during the summer 2008 session(s).

Apply for a summer Pennsylvania State Grant (for Pennsylvania residents only), if interested.
Review the Pennsylvania State Grant eligibility information.
Complete the summer Pennsylvania State Grant process:
- Access eLion and select Summer Pennsylvania State Grant from the Students menu.
- Apply for a Pennsylvania Summer State Grant online.
Important: Please apply for a summer Pennsylvania State Grant before applying for the Federal Direct Stafford and/or Direct PLUS Loans.
- If you are taking 9-11.5 credits during summer sessions and will graduate at the end of the summer 2008 or fall 2008 semester, please contact the Office of Student Aid at University Park or the student aid representative at your Penn State campus.
Please Note: Summer Pennsylvania State Grants typically do not appear in student Bursar accounts until the end of July. If you are depending on this grant for out-of-pocket expenses, you should be prepared to pay for those expenses on your own until the grant is credited to your student account.
Apply for summer Federal Direct Stafford Loans, if interested.
The Direct Stafford Loan may be available to you if you are an eligible student and have not received the maximum amount of Federal Direct Stafford Loan eligibility during the previous fall and spring semesters.
To request consideration for a summer Federal Direct Stafford Loan, select Summer Stafford Loan from the Students menu on eLion beginning April 1, 2008.
If you have processed a request for a summer Federal Direct Stafford Loan and have summer loan eligibility, please go to the U.S. Department of Education Web site to e-sign your Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note.
Important: If you plan to apply for a summer Pennsylvania State Grant, please apply for the grant on eLion before you apply for a summer Federal Direct Stafford Loan.
