Tips for Completing the 2007-08 FAFSA

Worksheet A (Questions 40 and 84)
Be sure to include the amount of Social Security benefits received for all persons included in your/your parent's (if applicable) household size. Report benefits paid to parents in the "Parents" column and benefits paid directly to the student (or spouse) in the "Student/Spouse" column. Include only untaxed Social Security benefits not reported on IRS Form
1040 – line 20b or IRS Form 1040A – line 14b..
Worksheet B (Questions 41 and 85)
Report payments made during 2006 into tax-deferred pension/savings plans (e.g., 401K, 403B) on Worksheet B. These amounts may be reported in box 12 of your W-2 Forms. If the letter codes D, E, F, G, H, or S appear in box 12a-d of student/parent W-2 Forms, the amount listed must be included on Worksheet B.
Report any housing, food, or living allowances paid to members of the military, clergy, and others on Worksheet B. This amount may appear in box 14 of W-2 Forms.
Worksheet C (Questions 42 and 86)
Review your 2006 Federal Income Tax Return and use the exact amount listed for the Hope and Lifetime Learning Tax Credit. Federal Income Tax Form 1040 filers use line 50 and 1040A filers use line 31.
