Office of Student Aid : Applying for Student Aid 2007-08 : Students Transferring to Penn State
Students Transferring to Penn State and Student Aid Eligibility
If you are planning to transfer to Penn State, please take the following steps to receive your student financial aid at Penn State.
Step One: Notify your prior school (Registrar and Student Aid Office) that you will not be returning.
Step Two: Release your U.S. Department of Education Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) information to Penn State.
If you have already completed the FAFSA:
Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 800-433-3243 (touch tone only) or 319-337-5665 to request that your FAFSA be released to Penn State.
You will need your:
- DRN number from your Student Aid Report (SAR)
- Penn State's federal school code.
If you have not completed the FAFSA:
- Submit the FAFSA on the Web so that your student financial aid can be processed at Penn State.
- Use Penn State's federal school code where requested on the FAFSA.
- Refer to Applying for Student Aid for more information.
Step Three: Contact your state grant agency (if applicable).
If you are receiving a Pennsylvania State Grant, you must notify the AES/PHEAA Grant Division in writing that you are transferring to another school. Send your written communication to:
AES/PHEAA Grant Division
1200 North Seventh Street
Harrisburg, PA 17012
Include:
- your name
- Social Security number
- semester you are transferring
- housing status (on/off campus or living with parents)
- indicate you will attend Penn State, list the campus and the appropriate federal school code.
If you are a non-PA resident receiving a state grant, contact your home state grant agency.
Step Four: Contact the Office of Veterans Programs (if applicable).
- If you are a University Park student receiving veteran benefits, you must contact the Office of Veterans Programs, 325 Boucke Building, University Park, PA 16802, 814-863-0465, for necessary paper work.
- If you are attending a Penn State campus other than University Park, contact the Student Affairs office at your campus for the necessary paperwork.
Step Five: Review your Student Financial Aid Award Notification and contact the Office of Student Aid if you have any questions.
Note: Federal Pell Grant eligibility will be determined when your FAFSA is received at Penn State. If we later receive information that you were awarded a Federal Pell Grant at another institution during the same award year, your aid at Penn State may be adjusted as a consequence.
For more information on other student aid programs at Penn State, please review Aid Programs.
