Office of Student Aid : Students Must Know : Adjustments to Your Aid
Adjustments to Your Student Financial Aid
Because scholarships, grants, and other types of student financial aid are reported to Penn State at varying times throughout the year, you may be awarded aid in excess of your cost of attendance or your financial need. For this reason, it may be necessary to reduce the amount of aid previously awarded.
Your record may be selected for verification.
- If the outcome is a change in your expected family contribution, your eligibility for student financial aid will have to be recalculated. In some cases, your aid awards may be adjusted.
- If you do not respond to requests for verification within the stated deadlines, your student aid will be cancelled.
We make every effort to adjust aid before a repayment request is made.
- If this is not possible because your student financial aid has already disbursed into your Bursar account, you may have to repay federal and/or University funds that exceed your need
- If repayment is necessary, you will be sent detailed information about the changes required in your record. You will also have the opportunity to appeal the adjustments.
If your total student financial aid is greater than your financial need, you should contact the Office of Student Aid immediately, so that we can review your aid package. A prompt review will minimize the possibility of repayment.
Federal Pell Grant eligibility will be determined when your FAFSA is received at Penn State. If we later receive information that you were awarded a Federal Pell Grant at another institution during the same award year, your aid at Penn State may be adjusted as a consequence.
