Military Withdrawal and Aid
If you are either an active-duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces or a reservist, who has been recalled to active duty, please review the following information in order to successfully withdraw from the University.
- Provide a copy of your military orders to the Office of the Registrar according to University Policy.
- As a student financial aid recipient, you will need to notify the lender who is servicing your student loan(s) for information on the deferment or forbearance of your loans during your active duty.
If you have a student loan serviced by American Education Services/Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (AES/PHEAA), Penn State will send a copy of your military orders to AES/PHEAA on your behalf. You do not need to contact AES/PHEAA unless you have specific questions or concerns about your loan. - If you have received non-Penn State loans in the past or do not know the name of the lender servicing your student loan(s), access your loan and lender information at the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
- If you are the recipient of a Federal Perkins Loan, please contact the Office of Loans and Scholarships.
- As a student financial aid recipient you will also need to complete the Loan Exit Interview on eLion in order to fulfill University policy and federal regulations. If you do not complete the Loan Exit Interview, registration and transcript holds may be placed on your academic records.
- If you have questions during your military absence regarding your enrollment status or procedures for re-entry into the University, please contact the Office of Veterans Programs.
- Explore the Armed Forces Loan Forgiveness Program.
