Penn State Office of Student Aid Parent Newsletter
Volume 5, Issue 8--December 2008
Welcome
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our monthly Parent Newsletter. I offer a special welcome to our new subscribers, and I applaud your commitment to learn more about student financial aid. Within these pages, we will inform you about pressing issues and provide you with general information and updates related to financial aid.
Nationally, higher education costs are rising markedly, and it is increasingly essential to become an informed consumer. By understanding the rights and responsibilities involved in receiving student aid, you and your student will be better prepared to meet the challenge of covering the cost of this important investment in your student’s future.
College is a time of great change and growth for both parents and students. As personal responsibilities shift to students, parents sometimes struggle with changing roles in their students’ lives. At Penn State, we communicate primarily with our students and increasingly by electronic means. The goal of our newsletter is to provide information to parents, so you have the tools you need to help your student navigate the financial aid steps--from application and eligibility to disbursement of aid funds.
We understand the importance of keeping you updated with timely information. We hope this newsletter encourages communication and increases your understanding about student aid at Penn State. Please feel free to send us your suggestions and thoughts about ideas for future newsletter topics. We invite you to browse our site and contact us with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Anna M. Griswold
Assistant Vice President
