National Merit Scholarships

  • Penn State offers five school-sponsored National Merit Scholarships, ranging in value from $1,000 to $2,000, each year to National Merit finalists naming Penn State as their first choice school. Recipients are selected in February from the first notification of finalists.
  • Many other National Merit Scholarship finalists receive awards from corporate sponsors which are of similar value.
  • Penn State offers one-time $1,000 recognition awards to all National Merit Finalists who have selected Penn State as their first choice school by May 1, and are not receiving a school-sponsored, corporate-sponsored or National Merit-sponsored award.
