Many organizations offer private scholarships to students who demonstrate scholastic merit or meet specific eligibility criteria. If you feel you are eligible for any of the following scholarships, please use the contact information provided.

If you are awarded an outside scholarship, you will need to notify Penn State of the award.

U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship Program

Eligibility:

  • High school senior planning to enroll or a current college freshmen, sophomore or junior at an eligible four-year college or university participating in the U. S. Bank No Fee Education Loan Program
  • Enroll by September 2010
  • United States citizen or permanent resident alien

Hispanic Scholarship Fund 2009-2010 College Scholarship Program

Eligibility:

  • Be of Hispanic heritage
  • US citizen or legal permanent resident
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must have applied for federal financial aid using the FAFSA
  • Be attending an accredited US college full time for the full academic year in a degree seeking program
  • Available to undergraduate and graduate students

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund manages awards from several corporations, including Macy’s and Shell Oil Company.

UNCF/MERCK Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards

Eligibility:

  • African American (Black)
  • A junior who will be a B.S. or B.A. degree candidate in the 2008-09 academic year
  • Enrolled full time
  • A life or physical science major
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Committed to and eligible for two summer internships at a Merck research facility
  • US citizen or permanent resident

The Garden Club of America Katherine Grosscup Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • College sophomore, junior, senior or Master's degree candidate majoring in horticulture or a related field
  • Preference given to residents of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5

Award Value: up to $3000

Vanguard Scholarship Program

Eligibility:

  • Be a member of a racial minority
  • Entering your senior year of college in fall of 2010
  • Be enrolled full time in a four-year accredited college or university in the United States
  • Be pursuing studies in business, finance, economics, accounting, information technology or the liberal arts
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident

Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O)

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans.

Washington County Visiting Nurse's Association Scholarship Fund

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a nursing student who has completed one year of study.
  • Must have been a resident of Washington County, Pennsylvania for at least two years prior to the date of application.

Addison H. Gibson Foundation Low-Interest Loan Program

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 for your two most recent semesters.
  • Family home must be located in western Pennsylvania. For a complete list of counties, please visit the Addison H. Gibson Foundation Web site.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Must have completed at least one full-time year of studies in your current degree program within the last four months.
  • Must demonstrate financial need.
  • Existing debt must fall within existing foundation parameters. You must be prepared to discuss cumulative educational and credit card debts.
