Mrs. Fredman was first elected to the Board of Trustees by the alumni in 1976 and was reelected for six succeeding terms. She served as Vice President of the Board from 1988 to 1990 and President in 1991 and 1992.

During her 21-year tenure on the board, she served on all committees and was a member of the executive committee in 1978, from 1985-88 and in 1990. Mrs. Fredman chaired the Special Advisory Committee on Affirmative Action from 1979-84 and the Committee on Educational Policy from 1985-87. From 1993-95, Mrs. Fredman was Trustee Liaison to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics; served on the Presidential Search Committee in 1995; served on the Renaissance Board of Directors 1977-97; and the Distinguished Alumni Award Screening Committee from 1976-77 and 1979-80. Mrs. Fredman also participated in numerous commencements as trustee representative. Most recently, in 1998, Mrs. Fredman was named Distinguished Alumna of The Pennsylvania State University.

The title of Trustee Emerita was conferred upon her in July 1997.
