Mr. Cook was first elected to the Board of Trustees by the alumni in 1985 and was reelected for three succeeding terms.

During his 12-year tenure on the board, he served on all committees, including the executive committee from 1991-95; the Presidential Selection Committee in 1995 as well as the Distinguished Alumni Award Screening Committee numerous years.

Mr. Cook was Vice Chairman of the Special Advisory Committee on Affirmative Action from 1989-90 and Chairman from 1991-95; from 1987-88 Vice Chairman of the Committee on Educational Policy; and Chairman of the Committee on The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 1996-97. Mr. Cook was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Penn State in 1998.

The title of Trustee Emeritus was conferred upon him in July 1997.
