Dr. David Joyner received his B.S. in Science from Penn State in 1972 and his M.D. from Penn State's College of Medicine in 1976. Following residencies in general and orthopedic surgery at The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a brief stint in the World Football League, Dr. Joyner began a medical career with a sports medicine emphasis.

Dr. Joyner is a health care and business consultant as well as an orthopedic physician.

Dr. Joyner is a member of Penn State Libraries Development Advisory Board, Co-Chairman, Paterno Libraries Endowment, Chairman of the External Advisory Board for the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence and the Schreyer Honors College, member of the Board of Directors of The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, member of the Hershey Medical Center Capital Campaign Committee and was active in the Grand Destiny Campaign for Athletics. Dr. Joyner was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of Penn State in 1992.

Dr. Joyner is on the Pennsylvania Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He is a former Chairman of the United States Olympic Sports Medicine Committee and is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Joyner was elected to the Board of Trustees for a three-year term beginning July 2000 and has been reelected for succeeding terms.
