The following requirements have been approved by the Standing Subcommittee on Retention and Transfer--effective Summer Session 1999:

#RT-70
Major in Music Education
Add the following paragraph to the description of the Major in Music Education:

In order to enter this program, students must be accepted as a music major in the School of Music and complete the requirements for entrance to Teacher Education Programs. In reference to Part 3 of the Special Requirements for Teacher Certification Candidates (see also Teacher Education Programs), the Education Core for music education consists of the following courses and their prerequisites: MUSIC 140, 222, 261, 262, 266, 270, 331, Primary Level IV on applied instrument, and 6 credits chosen from PSY 002 GS, 213 GS, HD FS 229 GS, 239 GS. In addition, students must pass a proficiency examination in voice and demonstrate strong communication skills in an interview with the music education faculty.

Once accepted into the Teacher Education program in Music Education, students must pass a piano proficiency examination and complete all courses in the major with a grade of C or better prior to the student teaching experience.

Entrance to College/Major Requirements (Abington College)
Add the following requirements to each of the majors:

Entrance-to-College Requirements
  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.

  2. Earned less than 80 credits.

  3. Ability to complete proposed major total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.

  4. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.

Major in Administration of Justice, B.A. and B.S. degrees (AJAAB)(AJSAB)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.
  2. An average of C (2.00) or better in courses already taken in the proposed major.
  3. Ability to complete total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.
  4. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.

Major in American Studies, B.A. degree (AMSAB)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.
  2. An average of C (2.00) or better in courses already taken in the proposed major.
  3. Ability to complete total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.
  4. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.

Major in Business, Associate in Science degree (2BAAB)

  1. A cumulative grade-point average of 2.00.
  2. Ability to complete total requirements within five full-time semesters.
  3. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Associate Degree Programs Bulletin.

Major in Business, B.S. degree (BSBAB)

To be eligible for entrance into the major, the student should have completed the following courses: ACCTG 211, B A 243, CMPSC 203 GQ, ECON 002 GS, 004 GS, ENGL 015 GWS, 030 GWS, MATH 110 GQ or 140 GQ), M I S 204, MS&IS 200

Major in Integrative Arts, B.A. degree (IARAB)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.
  2. Ability to complete total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.
  3. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.
  4. The student must submit a proposed academic plan to be approved by an IARAB adviser.

Major in Letters, Arts, and Sciences, Associate in Arts degree (2LAAB)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.
  2. Ability to complete total requirements within five full-time semesters.
  3. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Associate Degree Programs Bulletin.

Major in Letters, Arts, and Sciences, B.A. degree (LASAB)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00.
  2. Ability to complete total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.
  3. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.
  4. The student must submit a proposed academic plan to be approved by an LASAB adviser.

Major in Science, B.S. degree (SCIAB)
(Life Sciences and General options)

  1. Cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 or better.
  2. Ability to complete total requirements within 10 full-time semesters.
  3. Must have appropriate Carnegie units as listed in the Baccalaureate Degree Programs Bulletin.
  4. A grade-point average of 2.00 or better in all science and mathematics courses applicable to major, including at least 12 credits of applicable science and mathematics courses.
  5. When students repeat science or mathematics courses, only the highest grade will be used in the calculation of the grade-point average in all science and mathematics courses for entry to major purposes. (See item #4 above.)
