Penn State Board Approves Several Property Items
November 17, 2000
University Park, Pa. Penn States Board of Trustees today (Nov. 17) approved a number of property items, including ones at the DuBois, Hazleton and University Park campuses.
At University Park, the Board approved the purchase of the "Bibles for the World" property in Benner Township adjacent to campus and the Rider property at 300 West College Avenue, also adjacent to campus.
The 198-acre parcel owned by Bibles for the World will be purchased for $1.485 million. It is an undeveloped parcel along Seibert Road near the Universitys Transportation Institute Test Track and will be used by the College of Agricultural Sciences.
The Rider property is located at the southwest edge of campus at the corner of West College and South Burrowes, adjacent to properties currently owned by the University. The $2 million acquisition includes a 25,500 square-foot, 5-story building on .202 acres. The first floor has commercial and office space, which the University will continue to lease, while the remaining four floors have one- and two-bedroom apartments, which the Department of Housing and Food Services anticipates using to help fill the need for additional graduate student housing and housing for visiting faculty.
At Penn State Hazleton, the University will sell a two-story house about four miles from campus to Terry and Roseann Ettinger for $90,000. The University received the .26-acre parcel from the will of Charles Tolhurst Butler. The will did not require the University to retain the property and the campus has no specific use for it.
At Penn State DuBois, the University will purchase the Hochrien property for $87,000. The .22-acre property is located on the western edge of campus along Second Avenue, and includes a two-story house.
