Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Set

University Park, Pa. --- Penn States Asian Pacific American Heritage Month will offer events throughout April, coordinated by the Asian Pacific American Coalition and sponsored by several Asian American student organizations and other University units.
The following activities are tentatively scheduled and are subject to change:
--Sunday, April 2, the Asian Awakenings cultural show including performances and music, 6 p.m. in Eisenhower Auditorium.
--Tuesday, April 4, "Hopes and an Orange Duck," a play about an Asian-American woman's struggle with perfection written by former Penn State student, Ameca Shang, 7 p.m. in the HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall. The performance by the Loaves and Fishes Reportery Theatre is sponsored by the University Health Services and the Asian American Christian Fellowship
--Tuesday, April 6: Mandarin for Dummies, 302 HUB, 8 p.m. sponsored by Taiwanese American Students Association; information on KEWL Leadership Program, 7 p.m., 102 Thomas Building, sponsored by Multicultural Resource Center.
--Saturday, April 8: Korean Cultural Night, Osmond Lab, time to be announced, sponsored by Korean Undergraduate Student Association.
--Sunday, April 9: Career Luncheon for APA students and alumni, noon, place to be announced, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Alumni Interest Group, Multicultural Resource Center, and Career Services.
-Wednesday, April 12: Calligraphy Workshop, 302 HUB, 8 p.m. sponsored by Taiwanese American Students Association; Demo cooking at West Halls Dining Commons, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition and University Housing and Food Services.
--Wednesday, April 13: A Multi-Cultural Evening, Rec Hall, 6pm 10pm, sponsored by Minorities and Agriculture and Natural Resources Association and Undergraduate Student Government Multicultural Affairs Departments.
--Thursday, April 14: Asian Art Exhibit opening ceremony, noon to 1:30 p.m., Palmer Museum of Art; APA Heritage Month Celebration, Carnegie Cinema, 5 to 7 p.m., sponsored by AHANA and College of Communications; Taiwanese Night Market, Pollock Rec Room, 10 p.m., sponsored by Taiwanese American Students Association.
--Friday, April 15, Holi at 7 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by the Indian Student Association.
--Monday, April 17, Fashion Show, 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., sponsored by the Indian Student Association.
--Tuesday, April 18: Appreciating Other Cultures, 7 p.m., Pollock Commons Rec Room, sponsored by alpha Kappa Delta Phi.
---Wednesday, April 19: Speaker Dr. Nolan Zane, "Dilemmas and Challenges in Asian American Studies,"TBA, HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition, Psychology Dept. and Vice Provost for Educational Equity.
-Thursday, April 20: Mr. & Miss Penn State with guest appearance by Miss Pennsylvania, 7 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Lambda Phil Epsilon, alpha Kappa Delta Phi, Asian Pacific American Coalition, the Robeson Cultural Center and funded by University Park Allocation Committee.
--Saturday, April 22: Annual Asian American 5 on 5 Basketball Tournament, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., IM Building, Gym 1, sponsored by Lambda Phil Epsilon.
--Monday, April 24: Asian Pacific American Film Festival: "Spices," 7:30 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition and the Robeson Cultural Center.
--Tuesday, April 25: Asian Pacific American Film Festival: "To Live," 7:30 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition and the Robeson Cultural Center.
--Wednesday, April 26: Hip Hop Nite featuring The Mountain Brothers, nationally performing artists and Penn State alumni, 8 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition, Multicultural Music Series and the Robeson Cultural Center.
--Thursday, April 27: Asian Pacific American Film Festival: "Black Mask," and Food Festival/closing ceremonies for APA Heritage Month, 6 p.m., HUB-Robeson Centers Heritage Hall, sponsored by Asian Pacific American Coalition and the Robeson Cultural Center.

Also, more than 50 Asian Pacific American high school students from Philadelphia will visit the University Park campus this weekend as part of Keepin It Real 2000, sponsored by the Multicultural Resource Center and co-sponsored by the Admissions Office, Alumni Association, Residence Life, and minority services directors from the Smeal College of Business Administration and Colleges of Communications, Earth and Mineral Sciences Education, Health and Human Development, and the Liberal Arts.
The students will participate in a three-day program that will help them in their decision about attending Penn State.
