DR. SPANIER TAKES PENN STATE MESSAGE TO THE HOUSE
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 29, President Graham B. Spanier will address Pennsylvania legislators during the House Appropriations Committee meeting at about 11:30 a.m. He will highlight our progress on initiatives in information sciences and technology, workforce development and agricultural research and cooperative extension, among others. He will also address issues of underfunding by the state in such areas as medical education — Penn State is ranked 75th in the nation in state support for public medical colleges — and general education funds that support graduate and undergraduate teaching. This past year, Penn State received more than 75,000 applications for admission, making it the most popular school in the state and one of the most popular in the nation. The Penn State appropriations request is on the Web at http://www.budget.psu.edu. The Pennsylvania Cable Network often televises appropriation hearings live and shows them throughout the week.
