Penn State’s Open Budget Gets New A Look On The Web

January 25, 2000
University Park, Pa. -- Reading budgets may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they can give readers a look at the ongoing operations and priorities of an institution.

Penn State’s open budget and expenditures reports are now available on the Web in a much more user-friendly format. Penn State’s Budget has been public for many years in the form of printed documents in the library at each Penn State Campus. In more recent years, a Web-based version has also been available, but required extra software to use. To find the new version, go to the Penn State Home Page on the Web at http://www.psu.edu and under the first subject, "About Penn State," click on the Budget.

The site also includes budget reports prepared for the legislature and the Board of Trustees, and an archive section with last year’s budget, for those who want even more.

New is a Common Data Set section with statistical information on all Penn State campuses. These information sheets are used primarily by publishers of admissions guides and others seeking basic information about colleges and universities, and have been developed as a collaborative effort among the College Board, U.S. News and World Report, and others. Much of the information included in the Common Data Set is taken directly from reports that all institutions submit annually to the federal government.

The Budget Web site will also include other University-wide reports as they are prepared.
