March 23, 2000

University Park, Pa. -- Tasha Kulka, daughter of John and Joan Kulka of State College, and Daniel Schall, son of Cheryl Gretok of Greensburg and Richard Schall of Latrobe, will receive the 2000 Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Awards at Penn State’s Student Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 9, at the Penn Stater Conference Center and Hotel.

The award honors graduating seniors who have combined successful athletic participation with academic excellence, and is named for Ernest B. McCoy, who was dean of Penn State’s College of Physical Education from 1952 to 1970. He also was the University’s athletic director.

An academic All-Big Ten recipient in swimming and a major in kinesiology, Kulka has earned a 3.93 grade-point average while maintaining an exceptionally productive record in freestyle and breaststroke on the swimming team. In addition, her academic interests have lead to research in the Noll Physiological Research Center.

Schall is a four-year varsity letter-winner and a defensive specialist on the volleyball team. He has earned a 3.93 grade-point average in secondary education and social studies and is currently an undergraduate coach. He plans to pursue a career as a teacher and coach.
