J. Bruce Mckinney Named To Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Board Of Directors

Hershey, Pa — Darrell G. Kirch, M.D., senior vice president for health affairs, dean, Penn State College of Medicine, and CEO of The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and Edward P. Junker III, chairman, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center board of directors, announced today that the board took action at their regular board meeting on Thursday, January 18, to elect J. Bruce McKinney to the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Board of Directors. McKinney is the retired chairman and CEO of Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company (HERCO).

"Bruce McKinney brings great things to our board. His career has been one of superb leadership accomplishments, and he has a deep appreciation of the vital role played by our Medical Center in the community," said Kirch.

McKinney has been part of the Hershey community for many years. In addition to his professional duties at HERCO, he has served on many boards including the Hershey Trust Company, Milton Hershey School, and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry. He has also won many community awards including the Community Service Award from Women in Crisis, and is a past president of the Hershey Rotary. McKinney is a graduate of the Milton Hershey School, Dickinson College, Dickinson School of Law of Penn State, and Penn State University Executive Management Program. McKinney will be an independent board member.

"I am delighted that Bruce McKinney has agreed. His history in the community and his business experience will be very beneficial to the board," said Junker, "His expertise will be a great asset as we move forward."

The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is a nonprofit corporation and is a subsidiary of Penn State. The Board of Directors of the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center focuses on the management and growth of clinical services to provide the corporation with greater flexibility to develop operational and employment policies that are necessary in a competitive healthcare environment. The success of this clinical enterprise is essential to support Penn State College of Medicine, which remains as the fundamental purpose and mission of the corporation and its board of directors.

The board of directors of The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center consists of 15 members: nine appointed by Penn State’s Board of Trustees, four independent directors who appoint their own successors, and two ex-officio members.
