Centre County Resident Named Student Marshal for
College of Earth & Mineral Sciences

University Park, Pa -- MaryEllen Beattie of Potters Mills, Pa., has been selected to serve as the student marshal for the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State's Summer 2001 commencement. The ceremonies will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center on Penn State's University Park Campus on Aug. 4.
Ms. Beattie is a returning adult student who has earned her bachelor's degree in geography and will graduate with highest distinction honors. She received an associate's degree in computer-aided drafting from the ITT Technical Institute in Phoenix, AZ and was the 1977 class valedictorian. Beattie has worked as a mechanic for the United States Army at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky, a drafter/designer for Tracor Applied Sciences Division in Inigoes, MD, as a web site designer for the Mifflin County Mapping Department in Lewistown, Pa., and as a technician's aide in agricultural engineering at Penn State.
