Gov. Ridge Releases Funds For Penn State Project

Hershey, Pa. – Gov. Tom Ridge has released a total of $8.2 million to Penn State to fund physical plant upgrades in approximately 22 major buildings, telecommunications infrastructure, and utility expansion for west campus development.
“I am pleased to announce that the following projects have been released by the Governor for construction, said Gary C. Schultz, senior vice president for finance and business/treasurer, during his presentation to the Board of Trustees today (March 16).
The third phase of capital renewal, project no. 800-265, at $5 million dollars has been released which will allow the university to complete an additional phase of a series of projects to address upgrades needed in approximately 600 major buildings on the university park campus.
This phase will allow the university to complete a variety of projects in approximately 22 major academic, research and administrative buildings across campus such as; roof replacements, HVAC control replacements and upgrades, window replacements, elevator upgrades, a chiller replacement, fire alarm replacements, and campus infrastructure upgrades to roadways.
The final phase of project no. 800-243, expansion and improvement of telecommunications infrastructure for University Park in the amount of $2,268,886 has also been released. Technological advancements in telecommunications have made it necessary for the university to provide cost-effective, state-of-the-art telecommunications services in its facilities. This project will enable students, faculty, and staff to make effective use of informational technology tools in their learning, teaching, research, management and support activities.
Lastly, an additional phase of project no. 800-241, utility expansion for west campus development at University Park in the amount of $941,000 has been released. This project will allow the university to complete the necessary infrastructure needs to serve the new information sciences and technology building, as well as future short-term and long-term development on the west campus.
