Board Approves Preliminary Plans For MBNA Career Services Building
March 16, 2001
Hershey, Pa. – Penn State students are highly sought by employers in all fields, and the new MBNA Career Services Building in the heart of campus will help make those connections easier for both students and employers.

Today, (March 16) the Board of Trustees approved the sketch/preliminary plans for the 44,000 gross square-foot building, which will be located on Bigler Road next to the Computer Building and across from the outdoor swimming pool.

“Presently, our career services functions are located in McAllister and Boucke Building,” said Gary C. Schultz, senior vice president for finance and business/treasurer, in a report to the Board.  “The new MBNA building will house all the programs and functions of Career Services, including career counseling, outreach programming, placement services, staff offices, and interview rooms.  It will also house the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student Athletes.”

Access to the brick building will be through a lobby on the north side and through a café on south with a drop-off area on the north and surrounding pedestrian walkways and landscape plantings.

On the first floor, light wells will be open to the second floor to provide natural light. The east side will have counseling spaces and a library and the west side will have offices for Alumni Services, office, support, and workspaces and a flexible multi-purpose space.

The Second floor will also have light wells open to the roof for natural light.  It will have a lobby, a lounge, a conference room, 44 interview rooms and offices.  The third floor will house the Morgan Center.

This facility designed by Weber Murphy Fox of Pittsburgh and State College is being funded by a gift from MBNA and University funds.  Construction is projected to begin in July.
