Emergency Medical Service Students Win Championship

University Park, Pa. –Two teams of Penn State students from the University Health Services’ Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) took high honors in a recent national competition designed to test skills during simulated emergencies.
The competition, held during a National Collegiate EMS Foundation conference in Rochester, N.Y., ended with one Penn State team placing first overall against 19 other teams, as well as first in the trauma and communications categories; and another Penn State team placing third overall. The first place team included Nick Mangold of Oak Ridge, N.J., Lionel Tauszig of Versailles, France, and Todd Wojtowicz of Newtown. The third place team included Bryon Mushrush of Erie, Clayton Ondrizek of Apollo, and Sundeep Ram of Erie. A total of 16 Penn State students participated in the conference.
According to J. David Jones, EMS manager, the students provide daily emergency response to accident and illness patients on the University Park campus, serve as assistant instructors for a kinesiology course on emergency medical technology, and provide services for such on-campus events as concerts and athletic matches.
